FAQ

What do I need for my online lessons ?

A good internet connexion ! A Skype account for private lessons (or we’ll use a permanent google Meet link), and a Word or Google account to be able to read/write/correct French on a shared document.

What is Tutorbird and what is it used for ?

Tutorbird is a software we use to facilitate our booking / cancelling system. Once you’ve registered with us, we’ll give you your student access codes to be able to plan your own lessons and book any event you want according to our showing calendar. This system is completely free for our students, and will allow you to book, see what’s going on at Frenchy Hour, message your tutor directly and keep an eye on your records. You can also choose to pay your classes directly via this website, with a secure Paypal option.

How long does online lessons last ?

A regular private lesson is 55 minutes as every lesson ends 5 minutes prior to the next one. Please be aware that the teacher will wait for you for 15 minutes, and then will consider the lesson as cancelled and due. If the student is late, the teacher will still end the lesson 5 minutes before the following class as she needs to be ready.

You can either opt for a 45 minutes or a 30 minutes lesson.

You can also join group classes and events. In a group of 4 and more students, the lesson will last 1h ou 1h30, depending on the workshop / class selected.

How do I pay for online lessons ?

You can either use Paypal or Wise, or for packages, direct bank transfers via our IBAN if it’s more convenient (depending on the fees / country). Please, be aware that every lesson must be paid prior to our session, to secure your slot and have your lesson. NEW : you can also directly pay through your Tutorbird student portal (extra fee to be considered)

What do I do if I need to cancel my lesson ?

If the teacher is informed 48 hours before the lesson, the lesson is not considered as due. Under 48 hours, apart under exceptional circumstances, the lesson is considered as due and should be paid or taken from the package (if any). Please, try as much as possible to inform your teacher in advance to reschedule a lesson, or for your teacher to organize the timetable otherwise as floating students might enjoy the opportunity to have their session. NEW : you can directly cancel your lessons via your student portal. Make-up credits given only when respecting the 48h cancellation policy (and usable within 6 months during any private lesson).

Note : the teacher will connect and call at the time of the lesson and will wait 15 minutes for the student, if after these 15 minutes, the student doesn’t show up, the lesson will be considered as completed and due. Please inform as soon as possible when you are facing some troubles to connect.

What do I do if I’m away, on vacation for a long time ?

We all need a vacation sometimes ! Just inform your teacher in advance of your date of return, and your tutor will mark it down and send you a mail the week before to make sure we are rightly settled to get back to our French.

Note that, for an absence of more than 8 weeks, your spot is not guaranteed as our schedule adapts to waiting student attendees.

What do I do if I need to stop my French lessons ?

If you think you have reached your goals or if your schedule doesn’t allow you to continue your French lessons, please inform your tutor 2 weeks in advance to enjoy the 2 last lessons together and for your teacher to arrange the new calendar for students on the waiting list. As you have the opportunity to pay on the go lessons or take a package tto secure a private class on a regular basis, when your package ends, you can renew one, or stop there if the goals are reached. With the tutorbird software, it is made easier to have a look on your balance, and on the lessons left on your package, to inform your teacher of any decision you would like to take for your future lessons.

Please note packages can only be refundable under certain circumstances, and the tutor will keep 2 lessons out of the 10 lessons package, equivalent to the 2 week’s notice, to fix her new planning.

What if I don’t know my level ?

Don’t worry. Take a 15 min trial lesson for free. This first meeting will allow your teacher to assess your level, your skills, your goals and see how we can help you reach your target in your French learning. It’s also a great way for you to see if we’re a good match to start learning together.

Do I need a textbook ?

Your tutor has plenty of material and textbooks to choose from. If you already have a textbook you want ot use, your teacher will be glad to follow and add her own material when needed. If you feel more comfortable with a book, your tutor will guide you in view to find the perfect book to reach your goals as we have loads of online versions of French textooks.
